Herbarium
For my pressed flowers collection, I had several elements I was looking to combine into one unified concept. Enchanted by the way flowers wilted and dried as they expired, I explored these flowers as symbolism for isolation, being cut from the vine, laws of atrophy and entropy, and decay. Memento Mori is also an idea I wanted to investigate as well as the thought of past and memory. All these elements came together to form this collection based on pressed flowers (another form of dead flowers I have engaged with all my life) juxtaposed with fresh flowers.
I wanted the forms of pressed flowers to shadow their live counterparts – a motif of their future – dead, but not destroyed. Transformed to a new beauty.
